PSHE and RSE

PSHE - Personal, social and health education.

RSE - Relationship and sex education

At St. Nicholas we help children to become healthy, independent and responsible members of society who understand how they are developing personally and socially, and give them confidence to tackle many of the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up.  Our children are encouraged to develop their sense of self-worth by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community.

For both our PSHE and RSE, we follow the 1decision programme of learning and supplement this with activities from other sources. This particular programme encourages children to make choices about what they would do in certain situations.

We also have a trained ELSA( Emotional Learning Support Assistant) Mrs Corbett , who supports children to both recognise and manage their emotions .

We are acutely aware of the importance of teaching the children how to look after their own mental health.  Each class has a daily mindfulness session where we use various resources to give the children opportunity to 'take time out' and learn new ways to this. We are currently introducing Stormbreaks which combines movement and mindfulness focussing on resilience, hope and optimism, relationships, self-care and self-worth.
