Welcome to Chestnuts Class 🌟

Welcome to our class blog! This page is where we will share highlights from our classroom and give you a snapshot of the exciting learning taking place each week.

Our mixed-age class is a busy, happy place where children learn together, support one another, and grow in confidence. We focus on building strong foundations in reading, writing, and maths while encouraging curiosity, creativity, and independence.

Reading, Writing and Phonics 📖✏️

Reading is at the heart of our classroom. The children enjoy sharing stories, developing their comprehension skills, and building confidence in reading aloud. In phonics, we continue to practise sounds, blending, and tricky words, helping children become fluent and enthusiastic readers.

In writing, the children are working hard to form sentences, use capital letters and full stops, and begin to add description to their work. We love seeing their ideas come to life through stories, recounts, and simple reports.

Maths Made Meaningful 🔢

Maths lessons are practical and engaging. The children explore numbers, addition and subtraction, shape, and measurement through games, hands-on resources, and problem-solving activities. We encourage them to explain their thinking and try different strategies, helping to build confidence and resilience.

Exploring the Wider Curriculum 🌍🎨

Our learning doesn’t stop with English and maths! Across the curriculum, the children enjoy science investigations, history and geography topics, creative art projects, music, and physical education. These lessons help them ask questions, explore the world around them, and discover new interests.

Building Independence and Positive Relationships 🌱

Year 1 and Year 2 is an important time for developing independence. We encourage the children to take responsibility for their learning, organise their belongings, and persevere when faced with challenges. It has been wonderful to see them supporting each other, celebrating successes, and showing kindness every day.

Working Together with Families 🤝

Thank you for your continued support at home. Regular reading, practising number facts, and talking about what your child has learnt at school all make a huge difference. We really value our partnership with families and look forward to sharing more learning adventures with you.
