Welcome to Acers Class – Years 4 & 5 🍁

Welcome to the Acers Class blog! This page will keep you updated with news, learning highlights, and exciting moments from our Year 4 and Year 5 classroom. Acers Class is a positive, ambitious learning community where children are encouraged to challenge themselves, work collaboratively, and take pride in their achievements.

Reading and Writing Across the Curriculum 📚✏️

In Acers Class, reading is central to our learning. The children explore a wide range of texts through guided reading, class novels, and independent reading. They develop deeper comprehension skills by discussing themes, characters, vocabulary, and author choices.

Writing tasks are carefully linked to our topics and reading texts. The children are working on organising their ideas effectively, using varied sentence structures, and applying accurate punctuation. From creative narratives to persuasive and informative writing, they are becoming confident and thoughtful writers.

Maths: Reasoning and Problem Solving 🔢

Maths lessons in Acers Class focus on developing strong number skills, including place value, calculation methods, fractions, and times tables. The children are encouraged to explain their thinking, justify answers, and tackle challenging problems. We place a strong emphasis on reasoning and applying maths to real-life situations.

Learning Beyond the Classroom 🌍🎨

Across the wider curriculum, Acers Class enjoys exploring science through investigations and enquiry, building historical understanding, and developing geographical skills. Creative subjects such as art, music, and design technology allow children to express ideas and develop practical skills, while PE promotes teamwork, resilience, and healthy lifestyles.

Independence, Responsibility and Wellbeing 🌱

Years 4 and 5 are key stages for developing independence and responsibility. In Acers Class, children are encouraged to manage their learning, take ownership of their work, and support one another. We also place great importance on wellbeing, kindness, and respect within our classroom community.

Working Together with Families 🤝

Thank you for your ongoing support at home. Regular reading, practising times tables, and talking about school learning all make a significant difference. We truly value our partnership with families and look forward to sharing many more Acers Class successes with you.
